Angels Valley River Retreat is a secluded nature escape situated in Sterkfontein near Balmoral, Mpumalanga, surrounded by untouched bushveld, tranquil riverfront scenery, and peaceful valley views.
Designed for guests seeking privacy, quiet surroundings, and a true connection with nature, the retreat offers a calm and unspoiled environment far away from crowds, noise, and busy city life. The Wilge River flows along the farm, creating a peaceful atmosphere filled with birdsong, wildlife, and the soothing sounds of nature.
The retreat offers a selection of unique self-catering accommodation options, including Mountain Dew and Paradise.
Mountain Dew is a private self-catering house nestled within the mountains and is ideal for 1–7 guests. The unit features 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, and a comfortable living area with an indoor fireplace for cozy evenings. Outside, guests can enjoy a private swimming pool overlooking the surrounding mountains and natural landscape, along with braai facilities and complete seclusion.
Paradise is a private luxury riverside tented camp ideal for 1–8 guests, offering a peaceful glamping experience along the riverbank. The entire camp is booked exclusively to one group at a time, ensuring complete privacy, tranquility, and an uninterrupted nature experience with no shared facilities with strangers.
The camp consists of 4 safari-style tents, including a main tent furnished with a double bed, while the remaining tents each contain 2 single beds. The camp includes a bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet, and washbasin, as well as a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, oven, and fridge-freezer. Guests can relax in the cozy lounge area with an indoor fireplace or enjoy outdoor living around the indoor braai area and fireside boma under the stars.
The tents offer Wi-Fi, private entrances, patios, and beautiful river views, creating the perfect setting for couples, families, or small groups wanting a quiet and secluded escape surrounded by nature.
Camping sites are also available for guests wanting a more rustic semi off-grid or fully off-grid outdoor experience surrounded by nature.
Guests can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities including fishing, hiking, birdwatching, cycling, and exploring the diverse flora and fauna found throughout the valley and river surroundings. The area is rich in natural beauty and wildlife, making it ideal for nature lovers and those looking to unwind in complete peace and quiet.
The retreat is accessed via a scenic 20 km gravel road, adding to the remote and untouched feeling of the destination. High-clearance vehicles are recommended, and during periods of heavy rainfall, access may be limited to 4x4 vehicles only.
