So lovely, we decided to stay another night! Stayed over en route from EC to GP. Dee Dee and her dog Buddy were wonderful hosts in this peaceful setting. We stayed with our 2 dogs who were warmly welcomed and had a blast exploring the property and surrounds, and playing with Buddy. Delicious meals were served on the beautiful stoep overlooking a well-kept garden. The unit is tastefully decorated, well-equipped and clean, and safely enclosed for our dogs. Much appreciated that Dee Dee graciously accommodated our spur-of-the-moment request to stay an extra night. We look forward to our next stay!

It was like visiting dear friends. I'm travelling with my dog Cosmo and we were welcomed with open arms by Dee Dee and Buddy the Labrador. It was like visiting old friends. Dee Dee was a great host and Buddy a wonderful playmate for Cosmo. The room was spacious, comfortable, clean and neat with everything for a peaceful stay and the dinner and breakfast Dee Dee served was delicious. We loved our stay and would definitely visit again. Whimsical, spotless, and warmly hosted—best stay in Smithfield! Highly recommended stay in Smithfield! What a truly whimsical and memorable experience with Dee Dee and her delightful dog, Buddy. The photos don’t fully capture the magic of this charming cottage, tucked away on the last road before the mountain. Dee Dee has created a beautiful garden and cozy cottages that feel like a hidden gem. Everything was spotless, and I can’t recommend enough booking breakfast or dinner with Dee Dee—she is a wonderful host and welcomes you into her lovely home with warmth and care. During our extended stay, she even gave us access to her incredible library, which made our time there even more special. If you’re visiting Smithfield, this is without a doubt the place to stay!

Wonderful, welcoming and an all-round great stay. Our stay at Black Cottage was just lovely. The cottage was quaint, all possible amenities provided for, and beautifully decorated. We arrived in the dark on one of the coldest days, and were made to feel so welcome by the owner. Our cottage was pleasantly warm and comfortable, and we immediately felt at home. The property is tucked away on a back road, which is very quiet and secure. Breakfast was wonderful and the owner's company an absolute delight.
