Definitely not what one would expect. I fail to understand how you can keep this accommodation on the books. It is filthy, the walls are covered in mildew, electricity is unsafe and not what is advertised. You should visit the place to evaluate first hand. I have numerous photos which will be addressed separately. Various permanents advised that they were not allowed to discuss circumstances with us. There is a dangerous dog, apparently the caretaker's, that nearly killed another. Even before the attack, we heard it had attacked another and a human. I booked in two days early and paid cash. The next day when asking for a receipt, I was asked "Don't you trust me?". The answer is"No!" I am finding it difficult to not believe fraud is in place!

Our managers had a family problem in the Eastern Cape and had to spend six weeks of our busiest time away - we tried to fill the gap but failed. For this, we sincerely apologise. There were also some long term stays who pay very little and in some cases nothing who also stirred the pot. We closed our website while we sorted out various issues and we have reduced the number of units available. We have now reopened. We offer basic, rustic accommodation in a quiet and peaceful atmosphere at very reasonable prices. It is not top of the line accommodation, but we do try to keep it clean and comfortable. We now also have security on site, but safety has never been a big problem. We say in each unit, “If you leave something out overnight it will most likely be there tomorrow morning, but if you do this every night, then one day it will be gone.” We are truly sorry for the poor experience that some, but not all, of our guests experienced over this period.

No cleaning service as promised, photos and reality were 2 different things. Upon arrival we were taken to a dirty place that was not safe at all, next to the warehouse where everyone was hanging out. My little boy was almost bitten by the dogs that charged at him. We had to stand in the corner of the dirty house and wait for the worker to tie up the dogs. There is no way I would stay in that place as a single mother. We were moved to another place. Great break from city life and noise. Last visit on Chavel Vapeur was so much better and relaxing than the first few times.
