Description

Frost House is one of the earliest buildings in Clarens, dating back to around 1920. The house has been sensitively restored by its current owners. Frost House is situated on Church Street in the town of Clarens, just off the village square opposite the police station. The house is conveniently located within walking distance to restaurants, bars, art galleries, and a grocery store.

The house comprises 2 bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom with a shower, basin and toilet. Each room contains a queen-size bed with quality linen. The house also comprises an open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area, and is equipped with a wood-burning Godin stove which heats the whole house in winter. The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, an electric oven, a microwave, a kettle and a toaster, and an under-the-counter bar fridge/freezer, as well as a dishwasher for guests convenience.

The house is equipped with full bouquet of DStv channels and built-in braai facilities with utensils, and features an entertainment patio with lovely views of the nearby mountains. Guests have access to a carport for a single car, and there is space in the driveway for an additional car to park on the property.

The house was originally built of cast sandstone aggregate for a modest owner. The restoration of Frost House was overseen by local architect Jaap Boonstra to make it more relevant for a modern, relaxed lifestyle, retaining most of the historical and original design features that give the house its charming characterful appearance. The front façade is as it would have looked almost 100 years ago, and the garden has been landscaped to attract wildlife and birds, using mostly indigenous plants and veld grasses that are typical of the Eastern Free State landscape.
