Great staff & common facilities, poor food, undersized room, basic ablutions. We came with great expectations and indeed the staff at the hotel were wonderful. Our biggest letdown was the food we had when we dined at the hotel on our first evening. That was a real pity as the hotel had acquired a great reputation for its dinners. This was one of the reasons we had chosen to stay there. My wife's lamb kebabs were virtually inedible - they were so tough. Even though the staff went to great pains to give her something else (which was much better), the meal unfortunately did not come up to the rave reviews we had read beforehand - and we are not picky people. The food is definitely overpriced. In other respects, our stay was enjoyable even if not amazing. There is a wonderful courtyard and rooms downstairs where one can relax, and the bar with all of its interesting old-world spaces is very cool. All of this would have been fine except for the price we paid per day which, considering the facilities we have enjoyed at that price in B&Bs, was, unfortunately, overpriced. All in all, not great value for money. We were there on two very hot days and for the price, I would have expected air conditioning instead of the wall fan that we had to keep on all night - though it didn't help that much, it was better than nothing. The hotel has wonderful staff though.

Real small town feel, slightly spooky, charmingly beautiful. Very nice, it not only met our expectations, but completely exceeded them. Rick and Sue run a very good show! And what a nice town!
