Description

Matopos is a rustic rock-and-wood cabin set within a wild syringa forest on Grootfontein Private Reserve. Surrounded by nature and mountain views, it’s a quiet space to slow down and settle in.

The cabin features two en-suite bedrooms, a simple kitchenette, comfortable lounge, and braai facilities. Outdoors, unwind in the wood-fired hot tub and take in the stillness of the surrounding bush.

OFF THE GRID
Matopos Cabin runs on solar power and embraces a simpler way of staying. There is no air conditioning or microwave, and we kindly ask guests not to use high-power appliances such as hairdryers, electric blankets, or hair straighteners.

If modern, high-energy amenities are essential for your stay, this may not be the right fit.
If you’re seeking quiet, nature, and a slower pace, Matopos Cabin offers exactly that.

FULLY SELF CATERED
We are fully self catered. The closest restaurants and shops are in Thabazimbi, about 40 minutes from Grootfontein farm. Please make sure to pack all the food and snacks you require for your stay. There is no restaurant on the farm.

THINGS TO DO
Make sure to pack a good book, some lekker food and enjoy the untouched bushveld from the splash pool.

HIKING
The 7.5 km KUDU ROUTE hugs the foot of the mountain and gives you a good workout and appreciation for our slice of the famous Bushveld.

For the more energetic you can hike our mountainous 6-11 km BLACK EAGLE ROUTE and enjoy the panoramic views towards Botswana and the Waterberg. Expect sightings of kudu, mountain rheebuck, zebra, klipspringer and resident black eagles.
