Matopos is a rustic rock-and-wood cabin set within a syringa forest on Grootfontein Private Reserve, offering a peaceful retreat surrounded by natural bushveld and mountain views. This off-grid escape is ideal for guests seeking a slower pace and a connection to nature, with a setting that encourages relaxation and quiet reflection.

The cabin comprises 2 en-suite bedrooms, a comfortable lounge, and a simple kitchenette. Each bathroom is fitted with essential amenities, while the living space opens onto outdoor braai (barbecue) facilities. A wood-fired hot tub is available for guests to unwind while enjoying the tranquil surroundings. High-clearance vehicles are recommended for access, and a transfer from the main gate can be arranged at an additional cost.

The cabin operates on solar power and does not include high-energy appliances. Guests are requested to avoid the use of items such as hairdryers, electric blankets, and hair straighteners, supporting the property’s low-impact, off-grid environment.

Guests can explore a variety of on-site activities, including hiking trails such as the 7.5 km Kudu Route along the foot of the mountain, as well as the more challenging 6 to 11 km Black Eagle Route, which offers elevated views towards Botswana and the Waterberg. Wildlife sightings may include kudu, mountain reedbuck, zebra, klipspringer, and birdlife. Sundowner game drives are also available by prior arrangement, providing an opportunity to explore the reserve with scenic stops along the way.
