Mdumbi Backpackers is a backpackers’ lodge situated along the unspoilt Wild Coast in Tshani, in the heart of the Transkei. The property is surrounded by panoramic ocean and coastal views and is deeply rooted in amaXhosa culture, with a strong focus on community involvement and sustainable eco-tourism. The setting offers a peaceful, rustic escape where guests can experience the natural beauty and cultural richness of the region.

Accommodation is offered in a one-bedroom cottage called Dolphin House and a two-bedroom house called Turtle House. Linen is supplied for all rooms. Both units have en suite bathrooms fitted with showers. Each unit has a self-catering kitchen. The on-site Mdumbi Café serves home-cooked meals, with breakfast and lunch available from the menu, and dinner offered as a set menu. Meals range from traditional South African braais to seafood dishes and local specialities. Dietary requirements can be accommodated on request. Free Wi-Fi access is available throughout the property.

Additional facilities include direct beach access with excellent surfing, fishing, swimming, snorkelling, and boat launching opportunities. The property also offers a lounge with a pool table, a children’s playground, and laundry services by arrangement. Spa massages and therapies can be arranged on request.
