Peaceful Karoo farm stay with exceptional stargazing and warm hospitality. Rooikloof Guest Farm is set in a truly magnificent location and is well worth the effort to get there. It’s hard to do justice to the beauty of the surrounding landscape. The night sky in particular is something special. The farm sits about 4 km outside Sutherland, overlooking the town, with a real sense of space and quiet. We stayed in Koesnaatjie Cottage 2, which is beautifully put together, very comfortable, and wonderfully private. Don’t be put off by the lack of electricity — the gas appliances and lanterns make it easy and comfortable to live, and it suits the setting perfectly. If that really is a deal breaker, some of the other accommodation on the farm does have electricity. Janine and Cara are excellent hosts and stayed in regular contact ahead of our visit, which made everything feel easy and well organised. Lovely farm stay, would definitely recommend. Really lovely farm stay just a few minutes from Sutherland. Cara, our host, was warm, friendly and very helpful. The house has everything you need for a wonderful stay. Little bundles of kindling and firelighters were placed in the braais (BBQs) and fireplaces, which made it easier to light. Little touches like the large vase of freshly cut lavender and rosemary on the kitchen table were appreciated.

Delicious, would definitely recommend it. We stayed in Koesnaaitjie no. 1, a beautiful fully equipped cottage. There are even folding chairs and small blankets for sitting outside. We had such a great stay.
