Saffier River Cottage Farmstay is a self-catering retreat set on a working farm along the banks of the Kraai River, approximately 30 km from Lady Grey. Surrounded by scenic mountains and open landscapes, the cottage offers a peaceful escape ideal for families seeking a quiet countryside experience.
This charming mixed-stone cottage is situated 3 km from the main farmhouse and accommodates up to 6 adults and 2 young children. It comprises 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area. The main bedroom features a queen-size bed, a single bed, and a bunk bed suitable for children aged 4 to 8, along with an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower. The second bedroom includes a queen-size bed and a cot, while the third bedroom has a single bed. A shared bathroom is fitted with a bath. Linen and bath towels are provided, and guests are requested to bring their own swimming towels.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove, oven, electric fridge, chest freezer, dishwasher, cutlery, crockery, and cooking utensils, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities. The living area opens onto a lapa with braai (barbecue) facilities and a boma fire pit, creating an inviting space for outdoor relaxation.
Guests can enjoy the natural surroundings and farm life, with sheep, cattle, dairy goats, birdlife, and other wildlife frequently seen on the property. Activities on the farm include mountain biking, jogging, swimming, and fishing in the river. The surrounding mountains are also known for their fossil deposits, which attract researchers, including those from the University of the Witwatersrand, adding a unique element to the area’s natural appeal.
