A getaway that turned into a nightmare. We have been vacationing with our dogs for 3 years and have never had a problem until this hostess. We arranged in advance and paid extra for our dogs and upon arrival we could see that the host was uncomfortable with our dogs even though they were trained. We also have cats at home, so our dogs grew up with cats and we assured them that our dogs were no threat to their cat. The next morning our dogs 'explored' as all dogs do under our supervision and the next moment the hostess came charging at us and started scolding and lashing out at my husband from one side without him being able to get a word in to get our dogs under control and to take them away; she was not looking for them there. For this reason, we respectfully request that pets be securely contained within the enclosed yard of the holiday home or kept on a leash in public spaces. At the same time, we must also consider the well-being of other guests and their pets. During this incident, one of our cats was noticeably frightened, which highlighted the seriousness of the situation. We do manage ten holiday homes in Witsand—many of which are pet-friendly—and we have welcomed hundreds of guests with pets without similar issues. We had a lovely stay. We really enjoyed our stay and the house was lovely, however, I would recommend that the owner perhaps looks at purchasing new mattresses for the beds, especially the double bed. The mattress was very uncomfortable. I would also recommend that the bedding be updated.
