Swale View Cottages are on a large property overlooking the hamlet of Vermaaklikheidwhich is designated as a Nature Conservation Protectorate. A peaceful undeveloped area it offers a variety of attractions such as star-gazing, birdwatching, fishing, swimming, kayaking, boating, mountain biking, and hiking. Vermaaklikheid is just 35 km off the N2 and 10 km from the Duiwenhoks River mouth at Puntjie.
Accommodation is offered in two lovely self-catering cottages Under Milkwood, and Swallow's Dance. Under Milkwood has 2 bedrooms and a bathroom and can comfortably accommodate up to 4 guests. The first bedroom is furnished with a double bed while the second bedroom contains 2 single beds. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, and wash basin.
The open-plan kitchen is equipped with a 2-plate gas stove, fridge-freezer, cutlery, crockery, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. There is a dining table, an open fireplace and a comfy couch. This area opens onto a large covered deck with outdoor seating and lovely views over the garden and limestone valleys. There is an outdoor braai area in the garden.
Swallow's Dance is one of the oldest cottages in Vermaaklikheid. Under a characterful Oregon pine ceiling, this cottage has two bedrooms, 1 with a double bed and the other a single bed, sleeping 3 persons. The bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash basin. The front stoep has a lovely view over the valley. The open-plan kitchen is equipped with a two-plate gas stove, fridge/freezer, cutlery, crockery and kettle. There is a dining table, two comfy chairs and an open fireplace for the cold days. There is an outdoor braai area in front of the cottage and a shady area behind.
Wood is available to purchase. Secure parking is available. Canoes are available to hire, transported by yourselves to the river.
Swale View Cottages is located just 10 km from the unspoiled Duiwenhoks River estuary and only a 15-minute walk from the public slipway in Vermaaklikheid. The property is bike-friendly, with several MTB trails in the area, including the Blombos Trail and the Witsands Trail.
