Talbot Trout Farm is a nature and wildlife retreat nestled in the Mpumalanga Highlands, ideally positioned within the well-known Trout Triangle between Dullstroom and Machadodorp. Surrounded by rolling Highveld hills and diverse ecosystems, the property offers a tranquil escape for nature lovers, anglers, and those seeking a peaceful countryside getaway.
Accommodation is offered in 4 self-catering cottages, namely Protea, Agapanthus, Kiepersol, and Rose Cottage. Protea Cottage comprises 2 bedrooms with queen-size beds and en-suite bathrooms fitted with showers, basins, and toilets, and can accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children. Agapanthus Cottage also features 2 bedrooms with queen-size beds and 2 en-suite bathrooms fitted with showers, basins, and toilets, accommodating up to 4 guests. Kiepersol Cottage comprises 4 bedrooms opening onto a patio, along with 3 bathrooms, including 1 fitted with a bath. Rose Cottage offers 5 bedrooms and 2 family bathrooms, each fitted with a bath and a shower, making it suitable for larger groups.
Each cottage includes a kitchen and living area designed for self-catering stays. The Protea and Agapanthus cottages feature kitchens equipped with gas fridges and gas stoves, while Kiepersol and Rose Cottage offer fully equipped kitchens with additional appliances. Living areas include dining spaces and comfortable seating, often complemented by fireplaces. Outdoor areas include patios or stoeps with braai facilities, and in the case of Rose Cottage, a boma area for evenings around the fire.
The farm features 9 trout-stocked dams and offers opportunities for fishing, birdwatching, and exploring the surrounding natural landscape. A variety of wildlife, including zebra, ostriches, blesbok, springbuck, black wildebeest, and reebok, can be seen roaming freely across the property. The cottages are supplied with mineral water from natural springs and are powered by solar energy, enhancing the off-grid experience in this scenic Highveld setting.
