Private Bush Campsites – 10 Years of Real Camping, Done Right
Ten years ago, Thorn Tree Bush Camp began with a simple idea — create a place where people could truly experience the bush, not just visit it. A decade later, our campsites are still true to that vision… private, peaceful, and grounded in nature.
Set within the Big 5 Dinokeng Game Reserve, our six private bush campsites offer a balance of rustic freedom and thoughtful comfort, shaped by years of real camping experience.
Each site is carefully positioned within the natural bush, separated by trees and vegetation to give you your own space — no crowds, no noise, just the bush around you.
What to Expect
6 private campsites (max 6 guests per site)
Private ablution per site (shower, toilet & basin)
Electricity, lighting, and a water point
Braai area at each stand
Natural bush separation for privacy
Suitable for tents, bush trailers, and caravans
Whether you're arriving with a bush trailer, caravan, or pitching a tent under the thorn trees, there’s space here to slow down and settle into the rhythm of the bush.
Rates & Fees
Rates vary depending on season, number of guests, and length of stay, with occasional midweek and pensioner specials available.
Please note: Dinokeng Game Reserve conservation fees and self-drive permits are not included and paid directly to the reserve.
Off-Grid Wilderness Camping
For those wanting something wilder, our off-grid sites offer a true back-to-basics experience.
No power. No water. No ablutions. Just you and the bush.
Suitable only for fully equipped, experienced campers
Located in unfenced Big 5 territory with free-roaming wildlife

Over the past ten years, we’ve shaped these campsites with one goal — to keep them real. S
Listen to the wildlife calls at night and wake to hornbills and birds' morning calls
And somewhere around the fire, you’ll find that quiet moment where everything else fades away.
A short walk takes you through the Thorn Tree garden to the shared Lapa and swimming pool, while your campsite stays your own private piece of bushveld.
