Thota Lodge Camelthorn Chalet is a thatched self-catering unit set in the vast southern Kalahari Desert of the Northern Cape. Ideally located en route to Botswana and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, this unique retreat offers guests the chance to experience the raw beauty and tranquillity of the Kalahari.

This solar-powered, off-grid chalet accommodates up to 8 guests and comprises 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. Each bedroom is furnished with 2 single beds, while the shared bathroom is fitted with a shower. Linen and bath towels are provided for convenience.

The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove and oven, fridge, freezer, cutlery, crockery, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. The lounge offers comfortable seating along with 2 additional single beds, and a cosy dining area provides the perfect space for shared meals. Outside, guests can unwind around the traditional boma (fire pit), ideal for evenings under the stars.

Built on a dune, the chalet boasts breathtaking, uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape. Its unique sandbag construction—using a mix of sand and cement—helps regulate temperature, keeping the interior warm in winter and cool in summer. A ceiling fan is also available for added comfort on warmer days.

Guests are welcome to explore designated walking paths on the farm or take on nearby 4x4 self-drive routes. The area is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts, with over 100 recorded bird species. A nearby waterhole offers excellent opportunities to observe wildlife in their natural habitat, making this a truly immersive Kalahari experience.
