Tula Retreat is a completely private wilderness sanctuary on the edge of Calitzdorp Dam, accessible only by boat. This unique arrival ensures an exceptional level of privacy and tranquillity, making it an ideal escape for guests seeking seclusion in nature.

Designed primarily for couples, the retreat can accommodate up to 4 guests and offers an exclusive-use experience where guests have the entire retreat to themselves. Tula Retreat blends the raw beauty of the Karoo landscape with refined off-grid luxury, creating the perfect setting for relaxation and a true digital detox.

Accommodation is offered in the Jala Luxury Tent, a spacious 80 m² safari-style tent furnished with a king XL bed and an en-suite bathroom. The tent also features an indoor fireplace, an outdoor shower, a private patio overlooking the Karoo, and a wood-fired hot tub where guests can unwind under the stars. Please note that there is no Wi-Fi or electricity in the tent, only soft LED lighting to enhance the peaceful atmosphere.

Additional sleeping space is available in the Vayu Vintage Caravan, a refurbished double-bed caravan located approximately 200 m away on a hill, ideal for extra guests who prefer a separate sleeping area. For bookings of 2 guests, only the Jala Luxury Tent is prepared unless otherwise arranged in advance.

Guests have access to a private outdoor self-catering bush kitchen located on a hill next to the caravan, approximately 200 m from the tent. The kitchen offers sweeping views of the dam and surrounding mountains and is equipped with a gas stove and oven, gas fridge, a fire pit for traditional braais, and basic essentials such as tea, coffee, oils, salt, and pepper. Daily wood and firelighters are provided. Wi-Fi is available only in this kitchen area. Guests may also pre-order traditional Karoo “Skof-Tin” meals for collection in Calitzdorp before arrival.

A variety of activities are available to enhance the retreat experience. Guests can enjoy kayaking, canoeing, swimming, boat cruises, and catch-and-release yellowfish fishing on the dam. Nature lovers can explore the 1.5 km mountain trail or the 6 km gravel trail, while birdwatching, cycling routes, hammock relaxation, and stargazing from the hot tub offer quieter ways to enjoy the surroundings. Yoga mats and meditation cushions are available, and Swedish massages can be arranged on request.

Your stay begins with a private boat transfer across Calitzdorp Dam to the retreat, ensuring complete privacy and uninterrupted views. Secure parking is available at Fish Eagle Private Resort, approximately 8 km from Calitzdorp, where a staff member will meet guests and provide the short boat transfer across the dam.

Please note that the camp is located on a slope, and guests are advised to pack light. Luggage assistance is provided. Check-in is from 14:00 to 18:00. The retreat is not suitable for children under the age of 12, and pets are not permitted.
