Quiet, comfortable and good relaxation. We really enjoyed our stay at the Fish House for its tranquility, simplicity and access to the water was a big bonus! Walking distance to a cute coffee shop and nice wine bar. Would highly recommend!

Not good at all. We booked for a 5 day stay. We were told where the keys were held and at no stage were we contacted by the host to find out whether we had arrived and how our stay was. I am 1.98m tall. When entering the cottage, we noted that the doors were no higher than approximately 1.7m and that two of the three rooms had wooden beams across, also no higher than approximately 1.7m. Needless to say, that within minutes I had several bumps on my head and a pain in my back. Surely something as important to your comfort as this should be mentioned in the property description? We then proceeded to take the information booklet compiled by the owner outside, where we had to spend all our awake time to avoid the low beams and doors. Firstly, you are warned not to use the oven "due to health and safety risks"; you are then told that you should not open the shower fully, since the bathroom will flood, and it is then suggested you simply sweep the water outside. Although it was extremely hot, we again had to read that the air conditioning is very old and does not function properly. It was suggested we use very noisy fans in its place. After scrubbing the braai area clean from previous visitors' fat and grease, and cleaning the outside furniture and table, we had our first braai at a braai that is not at the cottage as it suggests on the website, but rather located at the owner's house. On the website, there is an inviting picture of 4 chairs on the jetty. Please remember to take a bucket and cloth along to scrub the chairs clean before sitting on them. I then proceeded to open the gas for the stove top and saw a very illegal and dangerous gas installation. We went to bed and tried setting the alarm, which no longer worked. When we got up in the night to use the bathroom, we were met by large cockroaches. The whole place, inside and out, is in need of a good scrub. We left after 4 days.

Dear Tim, Thank you for taking the time to provide detailed feedback about your stay. I am sorry to hear that aspects of the cottage did not meet your expectations and that you experienced discomfort during your visit. Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience caused. The cottage is a traditional fisherman’s house, and as such, many of its original features have been intentionally preserved. This includes the low doorways and exposed beams, which are characteristic of homes of this age and style. While we appreciate that this may be uncomfortable for taller guests, these elements are part of the authentic experience the property offers rather than modern design oversights. Similarly, the stove, shower limitations, and older cooling system are all clearly outlined in the information booklet and reflect the rustic, historical nature of the home. This property is not intended to offer a hotel-style or luxury experience, but rather a simple, traditional coastal stay. Guests seeking modern conveniences, full-height interiors, or hotel-level amenities may find that this cottage is not the most suitable choice. That said, your comments regarding cleanliness, pest control, and maintenance are taken seriously and will be reviewed to ensure standards are upheld for future guests. I also acknowledge your concern regarding communication during your stay and will take this into consideration going forward. Once again, I am sorry that the stay did not align with your expectations, and I appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention. Kind regards, Vishuis
