An overall okay stay. Our stay at this guesthouse was a mix of thoughtful hospitality and some notable shortcomings. On arrival, the hosts made a considerate decision to move us from our originally allocated room to another, as the first was positioned too close to the highway. This proactive gesture was genuinely appreciated and immediately set a positive tone, as the alternative room was far more comfortable in terms of noise. The property itself is very well located, making it convenient for travellers, and the room was impressively clean, something that stood out and was pleasantly surprising given the other challenges encountered during our stay. That said, there are several areas that need attention. The accommodation is advertised as self-catering, which is somewhat misleading. The room was only equipped with a fridge and a kettle, falling short of what most guests would reasonably expect from a self-catering setup. A more serious concern was the drinking water provided. The jug of water left on the table contained visible algae, which is unacceptable by any hospitality standard and left us unwilling to use it at all. During our stay, the town experienced a power outage. Unfortunately, the guesthouse did not have adequate backup systems in place. While the lights remained operational, there was no power for charging devices or cooling. This meant we had to charge our phones in the car, and with the room relying solely on an extremely small fan, the heat quickly became uncomfortable. Even without the outage, temperature control is an issue. The room retains heat and the single small fan is insufficient, making it consistently hot and uncomfortable, particularly in warmer weather. In summary, the guesthouse benefits from an excellent location, strong cleanliness standards, and a thoughtful approach from the hosts in certain situations. However, misleading self-catering claims, poor water quality control, lack of power contingency, and inadequate cooling significantly impact the overall experience. With improvements in these areas, this could be a much more competitive and comfortable place to stay.

Regarding the points raised in your review, it is important to clarify that your reservation for Livingwaters Room 9 explicitly stated the absence of a full kitchen, noting only a refrigerator, kettle, and microwave. Therefore, the unit booked through LekkeSlaap was not designated as a self-catering unit, as clearly indicated alongside the room name on the platform. As you mentioned, the Livingwaters room you initially booked was situated near the road, which can be a source of noise for some guests. Consequently, we proactively offered to relocate you to Bo-Kamer prior to your arrival, to a room further removed from the road. This offer was made with the understanding that self-catering facilities were not a requirement, given your initial booking. This arrangement was communicated in advance, including photographs of the alternative accommodation, and was mutually agreed upon during a phone conversation and via WhatsApp. Bo-Kamer is equipped with a solar backup system that powers lighting, television, Wi-Fi, and hot water. During power outages, electrical outlets are temporarily disengaged to conserve battery life, particularly given the unpredictable duration of outages in Ermelo. In this specific instance, the power interruption lasted approximately four hours, from 16:40 to 20:30. Please be assured that the drinking water provided in your room is replenished daily with fresh, filtered water.
