Description
Poortje Game Farm offers self-catering ‘off the grid’ accommodation in a farm environment in the secluded Free State farm grasslands, hidden away by small hills and accessed only via a small windy gravel road. Poortje is the ideal short holiday destination for weekends and mid-week breaks.
Poortje Game Farm comprises of 3 beautiful stone cottages and 2 Wooden cottages. Because of the intimate setting of the cottages, they are only rented out to 1 group of up to 18 guests at any one time, ideal for families or friends to get together. Each stone cottage contains a double bed and 2 single beds, a bathroom, and a fireplace, as well as a covered patio. The cottages are fitted with solar lights. The one wooden cottage has a double and one single bed and the other 3 single beds.
In front of the cottages, there is a spacious boma, a lapa, and a swimming pool. Guests have use of fully equipped cooking facilities and braai facilities. 12-volt lighting is provided in the lapa and washing up area.
The cottages are surrounded by ancient rock walls and kraals shaped by a vibrant history. Several species of game traverse the farm and gather in the idyllic valley leading into the Vaal River.
Poortje Game Farm offers visitors an opportunity to experience the tranquillity of the Free State with an array of wildlife on the farm, or just the simple freedom of being in a farm environment with cattle, sheep and fresh air for the whole family. It is a perfect breakaway opportunity from the busy city life, where stars fill the night sky and fresh air clears the mind. Come and experience outdoor activities like game watching, bird singing and hiking trails.
