Elands Rest offers tranquil and scenic accommodation on the Sand River Conservancy in the heart of the Tankwa Karoo, nestled in the foothills of the Bontberg Mountains. Perfect for nature lovers, stargazers, or those seeking a peaceful retreat, this charming property provides a serene escape amid the vast Karoo landscape.
Originally used by shepherds during the winter months around the time of the diamond rush along the Forgotten Highway, the adobe building was abandoned in the 20th century and has been sympathetically rebuilt, preserving its rustic character while offering comfortable modern living and commanding views.
The house can accommodate up to 8 guests at a time (6 adults and 4 children) and features 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. Two of the bedrooms are furnished with queen-size beds and have en-suite bathrooms fitted with a shower, basin, and toilet, while the third bedroom also contains a queen-size bed. Each bedroom opens onto a private balcony or patio with comfortable outdoor furniture. Two single child-only sleeper couches are available in the living area. There are also 2 shared bathrooms, each fitted with a shower, basin, and toilet. Linen and bath towels are provided; however, guests are required to bring their own swimming towels.
The living area includes a kitchen equipped with a bar fridge, gas stove, oven, cutlery and crockery, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities. The adjacent lounge features a dining area with an 8-seater table, ample comfortable seating, and access to Wi-Fi.
With sweeping views of the mountains and the conservancy’s rugged terrain, Elands Rest is the ideal base for exploring the Tankwa Karoo. Guests can relax on the covered patio with comfortable outdoor furniture, take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool with sun loungers, and enjoy the convenience of secure parking on the property.
