Description
Shengeza Lake Lodge is situated in Kosi Bay close to Ponta D'ouro and considered ideal for surfers, anglers, adventure, hiking, birding, nature enthusiasts, families, and groups of friends. Access to the lodge is facilitated by a 4x4 or SUV, allowing an adventurous arrival in a serene natural setting. Shengeza Lake id directly in front of the lodge and is a home to many birds and hippo family.
The lodge comprises 2 rustic units comfortably furnished for self-catering stays. The first unit accommodates 6 guests and includes 3 bedrooms, each fitted with two single beds, as well as a bathroom with a shower. A fully equipped kitchen is provided for meal preparation.
The second unit accommodates 4 guests and features 2 bedrooms, each furnished with 2 single beds, making use of an outdoor shower with a basin. A commercial kitchen is provided nearby at the campsite for shared use, as the unit does not include an internal kitchen.
Both units are fitted with decks, and a communal dining and lounge area is provided. Guests are granted access to an enclosed braai area, a boma, a pizza oven, and a splash pool. Daily servicing is provided to ensure comfort during the stay.
The lodge is operated completely off-grid, utilising solar-powered lighting and geysers, gas fridges and freezers, and a gas stove and oven, creating a self-sufficient yet comfortable environment for all guests.
What to do…..
Snorkelling at Kosi Bay Mouth: Often called “the aquarium,” the estuary mouth offers calm, clear waters filled with colourful fish, making it a world-class snorkelling spot.
Turtle nesting tours: If visiting between November and March, you can join a licensed, guided tour to witness Loggerhead and Leatherback turtles nesting on the beach at night.
Lake system boat trip: Explore the four interconnected lakes to appreciate the diverse ecosystem and spot wildlife, including hippos, crocodiles, and various bird species.
Traditional Thonga fish traps: Observe the ancient and sustainable fishing practices of the local Thonga people by visiting the intricate fish traps, especially at Kosi Bay Mouth.
Beach hopping: With a 4×4, you can explore the area’s other beaches like Bhanga Nek, Black Rock, and Lala Nek, each offering unique snorkelling, fishing, and scenic spots.
