Description
Yellow House lies at the edge of the picturesque village of Prince Albert - the perfect spot to unwind and watch the sun setting on the mountains, gaze at the stars or wander through the almond orchard or typical Karoo veggie and succulent gardens.
Accommodation is provided in 5 self-catering, sleeping 2 to 4 guests per unit. Each of the units is equipped for self-catering with en-suite, open-plan bathrooms. All bed linen and towels are provided and there is secure, on-site parking.
Yellow House is one of the historical 'dorpsplase' and most of the simple cottages were built around the same time that Thomas Baines was constructing the Swartberg Pass. The decor of the cottages is simple and understated, but top-quality, working in harmony with the peace and quiet and abundant natural light of the Karoo. Spacious showers, big rooms, and private braai facilities make it worthwhile and comfortable to stay a few nights. The swimming pool in the orchard provides a blissful cooldown, with ample shade and loungers for that book that has been calling. The cold Karoo nights are a pleasure with ample heating, electric blankets and thick, fluffy duvets.
Yellow House is pet-friendly - our dogs are excellent hosts.
Our licensed restaurant on site, Yellow House EAT, serves lunch and dinner, either under the trees around the leidam or inside the original little farmhouse. The iconic lamb shank is a must, but so are the pizzas! We run a seasonal menu, changing every three months, and also cater for vegan and vegetarian guests, using produce from our gardens and local producers.
For the more active guest, we are right on the road to the famous and majestic Swartberg Pass and Meiringspoort, but the property is also the ideal base from which to cycle or walk to the center of our eccentric town with its quaint shops, art galleries, museum and eateries. Interesting botanical and historical walks can be arranged.
A leisurely walk up Gordon's Koppie in the cool of the morning, or a short climb to the reservoir with a bottle of wine and some local cheese for sundowners will reward you with spectacular views of the town and surrounds. Massages, yoga and Pilates sessions can also be arranged, and an experienced business coach offers 1-hour sessions should you want to reset your thought-compass.
The town also hosts various festivals and events - do chat to us about the Journey2Jazz, Vino Camino, Book Festival, Gamka Klassiek, Open Gardens, Open Studios, Prince2 George Cycling, shows at The Showroom, Swartberg Beer Fest and many more!
