Description

Knysna is a premier holiday destination on the picturesque Garden Route, Western Cape. The quaint town features green mountainous landscapes contrasting with the glistening waters of the ocean, rivers, and lagoon. Knysna offers nature trails, warm beaches, world class golf courses, and some of the best shopping in the area. Experience it all with our excellent Knysna accommodation.

When one thinks of Knysna, they often picture the stately Knysna Heads that dominate the covers of post cards around the world. These great sandstone cliffs guard the mouth of the lagoon, connecting the estuary with the sea. A lookout has been erected on the Eastern Head, commanding views across the lagoon, Leisure Isle, and the entire of Knysna. The Western Head is a privately owned nature reserve (Featherbed Nature Reserve) and offers an eco-experience like no other. Featherbed is a South African heritage site, accessible by ferry only, and access is limited to those in the company of one of the reserve’s specialist guides.

Knysna enjoys a year-round warm climate that makes it fantastic for boating and water sport enthusiasts who can relish use of the lagoon, rivers, or open sea. One can enjoy romantic beach walks, abseiling a 100m cliff, tree-top canopy tours, sea kayaking, beer tasting at Mitchells Brewery, and a tour of the Emzini Township while they're in Knysna. Those who seek a bit of leisure time will revel in world renowned golf courses such as Pezula Golf Course, Simola Golf Course, and Knysna Golf Course.

The Knysna Waterfront is a bustling place no matter what time of year you visit. It is arguably the most popular leisure and shopping destination in the region, boasting a premier marina, docking luxury yachts and cruise liners. Whether it’s a day of shopping or a unique dining experience you seek, Knysna Waterfront has it all. You will also be able to book boat tours such as lunch or sunset cruises and ferries to explore Knysna’s beauty.

Knysna is built on the northern shore of a large warm-water estuary, known as the Knysna Lagoon. The lagoon is unique in that it features the only estuarine seahorses of its kind in the world and visitors are encouraged to scuba dive to see them. The Knysna Lagoon is one of the few places along the coast (and in the world) that supports an oyster hatchery, of which the oysters are reputed as being the tastiest in the world.

Other places of interest in Knysna include the Knysna Yacht Club, Millwood House Museum, Knysna Elephant Park, and Millwood Gold Mines. The Knysna Forest is the largest indigenous forest in South Africa where animals such as small antelope, forest elephants, and a large variety of birds (such as the famous Knysna Loerie) can be spotted.
