Our "Adventure" at 102 on Main Apartment. My wife and I are pretty easy-going people. We definitely did not book this expecting a 5-star luxury resort; just a clean, basic spot in beautiful Struisbaai for a quick getaway. Oh boy, were we wrong. This was hands-down the worst accommodation experience we have ever had, anywhere on the planet. The photos on the website? Total catfish. The place looked bright and inviting online, but in reality, let us just say it was more "abandoned beach shack" vibes. We arrived to a front patio buried in sand and leaves – felt like we had stepped into a mini desert. Perfect welcome mat! Fancied a classic South African braai? The braai had no main grid. I ended up playing urban archaeologist, scavenging bricks from around the neighbourhood to prop up my own portable grid. Who needs glamping when you can go full MacGyver? Next door? A quartet of enthusiastic dachshunds who treated us to a non-stop barking symphony for hours on end. It was like living next to a very angry sausage dog choir rehearsing. The air fryer was so rusted it looked like it had been salvaged from the Titanic. The owner apologised (sweetly, I will give her that) and said she had not checked the flatlet recently. On our second (and final) night, she proudly announced she had bought a new one. By then, we had already given up and eaten out at a nearby restaurant. Timing is everything! The bedroom fan? Also rusted solid and completely unusable – great for those hot Struisbaai nights. The cushions had impressive mould patches, so we went out to buy sleeping bags. The bed had a dip in the middle (think human hammock), forcing us to migrate to the sofa for night two. Spotted mould on the kitchen wall too, so we popped out for cleaning supplies and tackled it ourselves. And the cherry on top? No toilet paper provided. Not a single roll. We felt like contestants on a very budget survival show. The owner was apologetic about several things, which was nice, but apologies do not fix a holiday turned DIY disaster zone. Struisbaai itself is stunning – the beach is world-class – but sadly, this stay ruined it for us. Easy-going travellers we may be, but this was next-level roughing it. Save your money and book elsewhere!
