Description
Amangwane Tented Camp provides a rustic yet comfortable stay just 3 km from the Kosi Bay Mouth, located within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It offers guests a base for both adventure and relaxation amid a pristine natural environment of clear waters, mangrove forests, and abundant marine life.
Accommodation consists of rustic tents with small patios overlooking the gardens. Guests can choose from 2-, 3-, or 4-sleeper units, each featuring a private bathroom with a shower, toilet, and basin. Shared facilities include a communal kitchen and dining area for self-catering. Linen and bath towels are provided.
The camp offers a range of activities, bookable directly with the lodge. Guided options include a 2-hour kayak safari around the Kosi Bay estuary and Lake Kahlu, evening turtle tours at Bhanga Nek beach (mid-November to mid-March), fish trap tours with a local Thonga fisherman, and guided hikes on trails such as Lake Zilonde, eKovukeni, and Lake Kalu. Fishing enthusiasts can hire the camp boat or fish independently in the lakes or surf (an SA Post Office fishing licence is required).
Nearby experiences include a self-drive trip to Ponto in Mozambique (passport and 4x4 required), wildlife spotting at Tembe Elephant Park, day trips to Bhanga Nek and Black Rock, visits to the Gate 6 Local Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and convenient 4x4 transfers to and from the Kosi Mouth.
