Description

Amangwane Tented Camp provides a rustic yet comfortable stay situated 3 km from Kosi Bay Mouth, within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the iSimangaliso Wetland Park. Surrounded by clear waters, mangrove forests and abundant marine life, the camp offers an inviting base from which the natural beauty of the area can be explored. Here, both relaxation and outdoor adventure are easily enjoyed in an unspoilt coastal setting.

Accommodation is offered in rustic tents, each featuring a small patio overlooking the gardens. The camp comprises 2- and 3-sleeper units, and each tent contains a private bathroom fitted with a shower, toilet and washbasin. Linen and bath towels are provided. Guests have access to shared self-catering facilities, including a communal kitchen equipped with a fridge, freezer, kettle, 2-plate gas stove and oven, as well as a dining area for communal use.

A variety of activities is available and can be arranged directly with the camp. Guided experiences include a 2-hour kayak safari on the Kosi Bay estuary and Lake Kahlu, evening turtle tours at Bhanga Nek Beach from mid-November to mid-March, fish trap tours led by a local Thonga fisherman, and guided hikes along trails such as Lake Zilonde, eKovukeni and Lake Kalu. Fishing can be enjoyed in the lakes or surf, and a camp boat is available for hire. A valid South African Post Office fishing licence is required.

Additional nearby attractions include day trips to Bhanga Nek and Black Rock, wildlife viewing at Tembe Elephant Park, visits to the Gate 6 Local Market held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and 4x4 transfers to and from Kosi Bay Mouth. Self-drive excursions to Ponto do Ouro in Mozambique can also be undertaken, subject to passport requirements and the use of a suitable 4x4 vehicle.
