Description
Hillside Farm is an established working farm located in the Southern Free State, conveniently positioned near the N1 between Trompsburg and Springfontein. Its central location makes it an ideal overnight stop for travellers journeying between inland provinces such as Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal en route to the Eastern or Western Cape.
Accommodation is offered in three distinct units, namely Len’s Cottage, The Tree House, and Old School. Len’s Cottage and The Tree House are set within a tranquil garden, allowing guests to enjoy the natural beauty of the Free State countryside. The Old School, originally used during the 1980s and 1990s, has been thoughtfully converted into guest accommodation and offers a more rustic farm-style experience overlooking the workshop and sheep feedlot areas, giving guests an authentic glimpse into daily farm life.
Each unit is equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. A full continental breakfast is provided daily in each unit, including a selection of cereals, yoghurt, fresh or rooibos-poached fruit, cheese, preserves, fruit juice, freshly baked muffins, and tea and coffee.
Guests can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities on the farm, including walking, cycling, tennis, and cricket, or simply relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. The swimming pool, currently being converted into a natural pool, is set among mature trees and green lawns, offering a unique and evolving feature. Seasonal farm activities provide added interest, from watching playful lambs in spring to observing sheep shearing or the weighing and marking of Red Angus calves.
With a history spanning over 100 years and four generations of family management, Hillside Farm offers a warm, authentic farm stay where guests can unwind, enjoy open spaces, and experience the charm of rural Free State living.
