Peaceful, pleasant, exceeding expectations and encourages a restful atmosphere.

Peaceful and enjoyable. Sufficient privacy, spacious and a calming atmosphere. The hostess was pleasant, friendly and welcoming, always ready to help, yet not encroaching on our space, which was great and appreciated. The views were incredible and literally a breath of fresh air, a great breakaway from the normal lifestyle. Everything was perfect for us and indeed exceeded expectations. Definitely worth a return! Thanks very much for the lovely experience!

Highly recommended.

Brilliant accommodation. The host was friendly and accommodating. We booked all the units to travel as a family - and all the units were fantastic. There is a gas braai in High Noon. All units have access to a separate braai area outside too. It is incredibly beautiful at Nkutu. The units are beautifully furnished, neat and with everything you need including great WiFi and aircon. Communication is fantastic too. If you need accommodation in this area, you really don't need to look any further. Nkutu River Lodge is spectacular.

Clean, comfortable and cool.

It was great, clean and comfortable. I loved the aircon in that hot weather. The only downside was that there was no backup battery to help with the load shedding. But other than that, it was great.

Loved, loved this place.

How we loved this place! One of my favourites now. Beautiful, super clean, and best location ever. In this place you get to enjoy the best of both worlds, city and the bush. Shops are nearby, the sea is a few kilometres away. This is a hidden gem in Kloof, hosts were lovely and very friendly.

Gerieflike, skoon akkommodasie met 'n ongelooflike uitsig.

Die eenheid het alles wat mens nodig het. Goed toegeruste kombuis. Die badkamer is ruim. Lekker stoep met tafel en stoele. Mooi dekor. Baie vriendelike en hulpvaardige eienaars. Direkte toegang tot die natuurbewaarplek. 'n Voëlparadys!

Regtig 'n baie mooi, netjiese, skoon en gerieflike blyplek. Wendy en Glen is ook baie vriendelik en behulpsaam.

Dit was regtig aangenaam om by Nkutu River Lodge tuis te gaan. Alles wat nodig is, is daar en selfs 'n bad en 'n stort in die badkamer. Ons was baie beïndruk met die opset en dit teen 'n baie billike tarief.

Fabulous stay in tranquil surroundings.

We had a wonderful time which was a part leisure, part business trip. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was available and the hosts were incredibly helpful and accommodating. The beauty and tranquility of the kloof were amazing!

A wonderful, relaxing lodge with a great view, privacy and serenity.

Nkutu River Lodge is the perfect getaway if you are looking for peace and tranquillity. The view from the patio is beautiful and serene. We enjoyed everything about the space, especially the gas braai on the patio. The big doors were a great feature for a wave of fresh air. We couldn't help but notice how clean everything was and it made for an even better stay.

It was perfect until my partner was viciously and unprovokingly attacked by the owners dogs while entering the premises.

Upon returning from breakfast I had to turn back to the vehicle to fetch my mobile phone. My partner continued entering the premises via the guest entrance when I heard screams dogs barking and owner shouting. By the time I got to where she was she was pinned against a bush and the owner was struggling to get the dog away. She had been bitten on her knee and her dress was torn. I must add that the owner was very apologetic about the incident and arranged for medical treatment and medication at his own cost but the damage was already done. My partner was very traumatised and chose not to spend the night there. Needless to say it put a damper on what could have been a perfect stay. It's unfortunate this happened but something has to be done to prevent further occurrences. After discussion we chose not to take any civil action although we were advised differently by legal counsel. What I would have expected was the owners wife to at least be a bit more sympathetic or empathetic towards my partner but this was not forthcoming.

Hi Glenn,
I have been expecting this review with some trepidation because, as you correctly point out, once an incident of this nature happens, the damage is done and there is very little that can be said or done to make things right. I am a firm believer in the principle that it is the owner, and not the dog, that must be “blamed” and I must, again, apologise for the fact that the incident was ever allowed to occur. I can only say that I am extremely grateful that the injuries were minor.
I think it is important (for you and those reading this review) to focus on your point that something must be done to prevent further occurrences. As you are aware, we do have fences to keep the dog away from areas where guests stay. Unfortunately, one of the gates was erroneously left open, and that is how this incident was allowed to happen. To combat the possibility that this could happen again, I have started installing automatic gate-closing springs that will ensure that the gates cannot ever be left open by mistake again. Secondly, the responsible dog (Cooper) is in all other respects a friendly and playful dog which, unfortunately, has a hypersensitized protective streak due to the fact I think that he was rescued from dire circumstances. I have therefore approached a dog trainer and behaviourist to assist with this unacceptable part of his behaviour. Rest assured that, if these interventions are unsuccessful I will, with sadness, accept that we will have to rehome Cooper. I do appreciate your gracious acknowledgment that, apart from the incident, your stay would have been perfect, and we will focus our attention on ensuring that we keep to that standard going forward.
Please contact me regarding compensating your partner for the cost of replacing her dress.
Wendy, my wife, has asked me to convey her apologies for the perception of her lack of empathy.
She was not here when the incident occurred and felt that, after the fact, it was best left to me to deal with the situation.

Was absolutely amazing! Wish we could have stayed longer!

It was a lovely and cozy stay. The weather permitted and Wendy, the host, was very friendly and just a call away. Definitely recommended.

Pragtig en rustig!

Baie dankie, die plekkie is pragtig, nuut, modern en die area is rustig. Ek sou glad nie omgegee het om in die natuurbewaringsarea te gaan stap nie maar ons was slegs een nag daar. Alles was baie netjies en skoon.

Te ver om te ry, ontvangs was onvriendelik. Kussings op bed te hard om op te slaap. Spinnerak in badkamer, stort en vensters nie skoon nie. Het die lugversorging waardeer.

Simply outstanding.

The unit is absolutely beautiful, spacious, spotless and fully equipped. There's a mall right around the corner and we didn't have to drive far for all the attractions we visited. Hubby and I absolutely loved it!

Accommodation in the forest.

Hot buttered toast is an exceptional place - over looking a nature reserve. At night we could hear the gurgle of the stream below. The apartment is stunning, very neat and well designed.

Wonderful!

We had a lovely stay at Hot Buttered Toast and will be back, was great that it is a self-catering unit. And it is neat and tidy. Wonderful experience! Will be back.
