House Rules

- Jacana River Lodge is situated in a high-density wildlife zone. Be constantly aware of the possibility of encountering a dangerous animal, especially at night. Lion, leopard, hippos, elephant and buffalo inhabit the riverine environment and from time to time come within close proximity to Jacana River Lodge. A low electric fence separates the property from the free roaming Big 5 territory. Sometimes this fence is not live. Animals can jump over the fence or break through it so do take extra care when animals are near the fence/lodge.
- Take extra care to supervise the movement of children around the exterior precinct of Jacana River Lodge. Be observant at all times.
- Persons who are under the influence of alcohol or other substances having a narcotic effect may not under any circumstances participate in any activities on Mjejane Game Reserve.
- All persons under the age of 16 years who wish to participate in activities on the Reserve are to be accompanied and supervised at all times by their adult or lawful guardian.
- Do not walk bare feet, particularly at night, anywhere in the immediate area outside of Jacana River Lodge, for example walking to rooms. It is advisable to wear closed shoes after dark and make use of a hands-free headlamp.
- The feeding of birds and animals is strictly prohibited in terms of the Reserve Rules. Do not leave any food, sweets or cold drinks unattended on the verandas or in the deck area, boma, or in unlocked dustbins outside.
- Mjejane Private Nature Reserve has troops of Vervet Monkeys. They patrol the area around Jacana River Lodge, and they see the lodges as an easy source of food. Do not feed monkeys and do not leave food, drinks or litter unattended. The consequences of this will be perpetual raiding, potential for injury to occupants and costly cleaning of Jacana River Lodge and replacement of damaged items. Everyone must be aware and disciplined in this regard to avoid these animals being put down.
- Keep all windows and doors closed when not in the room; in order to prevent wild animal entry.
- It is advisable to keep insect screens on the sliding doors closed at all times to keep snakes and scorpions out. It is not advisable to sleep with the doors open.
- Do not attract unwarranted attention by openly leaving cash, expensive jewellery, cameras, binoculars and other valuables unattended or unsecured. Please make use of the safes provided.
- In consideration for the neighbours and the wildlife, reduce noise levels after 22:00.
- Jacana River Lodge is required by law to comply with the Tobacco Products Control Amendment Act, 2010. There is a strict non-smoking policy applicable inside Jacana River Lodge. If smoking outside around Jacana River Lodge, please use ashtrays and ensure your cigarettes, etc. are properly extinguished. Please don’t leave cigarette butts in the bushveld.
- No pets are allowed in terms of the Rules and Regulations of the Mjejane Game Reserve.
- There is limited electrical supply capacity in the Reserve. Turn off your air-conditioning units when not in use. Try to limit the use of aircons.
- Please keep your water usage within reason. Please ensure that taps are properly turned off. Where possible re-use your room towels.
- Visitors to JRL are only allowed to drive in their private vehicles to JRL on the main access road that runs from the entrance gate through Mjejane Game Reserve to Erf 3 where Jacana River Lodge is located, or to the main Lodge and offices situated on Erf 1. Private vehicles must not deviate from the main access road as this will constitute a material contravention of the Reserve Rules and will incur a fine. Ensure that your guests understand and adhere to this rule. Maximum speed allowed on the Reserve main access road is 40km/h. There are signboards to this effect along the main access road. Please ensure that everyone is aware of this. If you are driving in your own vehicle to the Kruger National Park access bridge you must leave through the main Erf 3 gate and strictly keep to the clearly demarcated route. No deviations or short cuts will be tolerated.
- Exercise extreme caution when making a fire in the boma. Only fires appropriate for cooking are allowed i.e. no large fires or bonfires are allowed. Make sure you know where the nearest water source (hosepipe) is located. (Open boma fires are hazardous. It just requires one spark to ignite a blaze). Extinguish all open fires / braai coals in the braai and boma area prior to going to bed. Do not leave open fires unattended. You must ensure that all coals are fully extinguished and that embers are under the ash cover provided before retiring from the boma. Open fires are not permitted on windy nights. You are not allowed to collect firewood from the precinct of Jacana River Lodge or anywhere in Mjejane Private Nature Reserve. The thatched roof of Jacana River Lodge presents a great fire risk – please exercise extreme caution.
- You will be provided, on arrival, with an Inventory list of the assets, equipment and usable items in the Lodge, which you will need to sign. Please spend a few minutes to check the Inventory and the existence of the items on the Inventory. Any items missing or broken on the Inventory will be payable by you and will, as a first payment, be deducted from the deposit paid.
- Please report all breakages immediately to the full time Domestic Worker and/or the Lodge Manager.
- Guests must adhere to the rules and regulations of Mjejane Private Game Reserve.

Cancellation Policy
