Shepherd Farm offers self-catering cottage accommodation nestled on a ridge overlooking the majestic Cathkin Peak of the Central Drakensberg Mountains, and the Bell Park Dam below. The farm is 26 km outside of Winterton and offers easy access to many of the Drakensbergs' outdoor activities, including many hikes into the mountains, mountain bike tracks, quad-biking, canopy tours, a bird of prey centre, and much more. There are coffee shops, notably Scrumpy Jacks, who are renowned for their honey cheesecake. The Valley Bakery is also a firm favourite in our Valley, and the starting point for the Cathkin mountain bike trail.
The Shepherd Farm cottage is a cosy wooden cottage that is accessed from the carport via wooden walkway. The cottage can accommodate up to 4 guests and contains 2 spacious bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. The Blue Room contains a Queen size bed, and the Brown Room has two single beds. Both bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with a bath and a shower, a toilet and a washbasin. Both bedrooms have sliding doors opening to the wooden deck.
Please take note that Shepherd Farm is an off-grid property, relying on solar power, gas and generator power. The power to the cottage is switched off at 11:30pm and switched on again at 7am. Emergency lamps are provided.
The modern kitchen is well-equipped for self-catering and is fitted with a hob and oven, microwave, fridge, kettle, and all other standard kitchen amenities. The oven and microwave oven operate off a separate generator on request. The dining area contains a 4-seater dining table. The comfortable lounge contains a couch, a gas heater, and a flat-screen TV. The cottage opens to a large deck with outdoor dining furniture overlooking the dam and mountains, and the ever changing weather.
Due to our off-grid status, we do not supply hairdryers.
