Favourite place to stay on road trip. The Black Barn was an amazing place to stay. Rob is a generous and friendly host who thinks of every detail. The games room is a huge draw. The view is stupendous. Everything was clean. He even supplied Jacobs coffee and Woolies milk. Despite a municipal power failure, he had solar power and Jojo tank water. We were thrilled to be able to wash our clothes. We were sad to leave.

Very disappointing. We stayed at The Black Barn in Knysna over the weekend and were unfortunately very disappointed with our stay. The general condition of the accommodation was not up to the standard we had expected. The bathroom was dated and did not feel clean, with the enamel on the bath peeling in places. The carpets were dirty and stained, and the bedding in one of the rooms was stained. There were also visible dirt stains on the walls and doors. Furthermore, there was no broom or mop available, which made it difficult to keep the accommodation tidy during our stay. Another big problem was that the owner lives in the upper part of the same house while the lower part is rented out to guests. The house has wooden floors, and unfortunately every footstep from upstairs was very clearly audible. This meant that we constantly felt that we had to speak very softly and even keep our children quiet for fear of disturbing the owner. This was especially disappointing as it was my daughter's birthday and we had chosen this accommodation because of the games room. My children woke up early and wanted to use the facilities, but I had to stop them because I didn't know if the owner was still asleep. I feel that this is an important aspect of the accommodation that should be clearly disclosed to potential guests in advance. If I had known that the owner lived directly above us and that there was such a high level of sound transmission between the two areas, I would definitely have chosen a different accommodation. We expected to be able to use the facilities we booked for normally and freely without constantly worrying that we would disturb the owner. Amazing. We had the most amazing stay at The Black Barn this past weekend. From the moment we arrived, Rob made us feel so welcome. The quick tour was super helpful, and it was clear how much care goes into every detail of the place. The condos were spotless, beautifully designed, and had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. It honestly exceeded our expectations — quiet, comfortable, and just perfect for a getaway. The kids were completely absorbed in the games room. Thank you, Rob, for the warm hospitality. We’ll definitely be back and highly recommend The Black Barn to anyone visiting Knysna!
