Set on two acres of tranquil, park-like gardens, this elegant three-star homestead lies just 35 kilometers from Durban, and yet, feels a world away from the city’s pace. Over the years, it has become a sought-after retreat for both leisure travelers and corporate guests seeking genuine hospitality, comfort, cleanliness and above all, peace and quiet.
The main house was built in 1956 as a family home and passed down through generations before being lovingly reimagined in 1997 by Jane and Paul, who purchased the property with a vision of creating a welcoming bed-and-breakfast. As professional entertainers, they brought warmth, character and personality to the space, naming it Lindisfarne after the British folk-rock group popular in the early 1970s — a subtle nod to their creative roots.
Located in Botha’s Hill, KwaZulu-Natal, the property forms part of the Thousand Hills Experience Route (T1), more commonly known as the Comrades Route, and sits within easy reach of the Hillcrest area. Botha’s Hill is renowned for having one of the healthiest climates in the world and enjoys cooler temperatures than the coast, making it a refreshing escape year-round. Guests are encouraged to pack a light jersey, even in summer.
Lindisfarne has built a strong reputation for exceptional service, relaxed hospitality and thoughtful attention to detail. Recognition includes the B&B Sure Service Excellence Award and being voted among the Top 100 establishments in South Africa for 2024. A hearty, well-loved breakfast and genuine conversation are part of the experience — as is a sense of ease that encourages guests to slow down and settle in. Very convenient and close to Hillcrest Private Hospital, Kearsney College, Highbury School, West Town, Hammarsdale, and Hillcrest.
Breakfast is an extra cost @ R120 pppd if required.
On-site facilities include a simple, uncovered braai area and on-site parking.
Over the years, the homestead has welcomed an eclectic mix of guests, including some of South Africa’s top entertainers — and even a cheetah. Accommodation comprises 2 self-catering units Tyne cottage a 4 sleeper which has a full kitchen and The Studio a 2 sleeper which has a kitchenette. The other 3 bedrooms are B&B and not suitable for self-catering. All rooms and units come equipped with comfortable beds, an en-suite bathroom with shower, DStv hospitality package, tea- and coffee-making facilities, fans and Wi-Fi.
