Escape to slow living at our authentic self-catering cottage on the quiet side of McGregor. Overlooked by the iconic Badge Mountain, this retreat offers a blend of traditional craftsmanship and natural serenity.

Ons Huisie features cob walls, a classic thatch roof and reed ceilings that keep the interior cool in summer and cozy in winter. At the heart of the home is an open-plan kitchen and sitting area, anchored by a wood-burner fireplace, perfect for chilly Cape evenings. The kitchen is equipped for simple meals with a four-plate electrical stove, inverter microwave, under-counter fridge, and a plunger coffee pot for your morning brew.

The cottage is designed for a couple or small family with 2 youngsters. The main bedroom is furnished with a queen-size bed, a wardrobe, and a convenient en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower and basin.

For the children – or young at heart – an “Out of Africa” mezzanine houses two single beds under the thatch. The main bathroom includes a basin, WC, and a bath with a wall mounted shower. Fans are present for hot summer nights and an oil heater in the bedroom in winter.

The shaded stoep provides a vantage point for birdwatching in the secluded indigenous garden or relax there and just muse or get lost in a book. Your furry friends are welcome in this dog-friendly space. We’ve intentionally kept “noise-making machines” to a minimum to preserve the tranquillity. There is Wi-Fi for unavoidable contact with the outside world.

For bikers and hikers there are trails practically on your doorstep. After a day of adventure, fire up the braai or gather round the picnic table and camping chairs for dinner under the stars. You are within easy strolling distance of McGregor’s charming shops, restaurants and 2 local laundries. A carport ensures your vehicle is secure while you explore on foot.
