Kommetjie Beach

Kommetjie, Western Cape
+4

Description

Kommetjie is a small suburb whose name means “small basin" in Afrikaans as there’s evidence that people used to use the area as a fish trap, long ago.

The main attraction is the wide, long, beautiful beach with attractive rocky patches. It runs over 8km (5 miles) to Noordhoek and is well placed for those long walks at the beach.

The beach is ideal for surfing. But the water is very cold, since it is on the Atlantic side of the Cape Peninsula's coastline. So a wetsuit is very much recommended!
