St Stithians Girls' College
Description
St Stithians Girls' College is a private Methodist day school for girls on the border of Randburg and Sandton in Johannesburg. As a Methodist school, it has ties to Kearsney College, Epworth High School, Penryn College, and Kingswood College.
The school is a member of the G20 Schools Group and both the girls’ and boys’ colleges are part of the Round Square Conference of Schools. The school teaches Grade 8 to Grade 12 and has 530 students.
HERITAGE
St Stithians Girls' College was founded in 1995 as the St Stithians Girls Collegiate. The founding headmistress was Mrs Anne Van Zyl and initial opening classes were Grade R to Grade 3. During 1994, the classes were held on the boys’ side of the rugby field using the available infrastructure.
At the heart of the school is a beautiful chapel with stained glass windows. Students are required to attend chapel weekly. The school puts value on silence which is evident in chapel, in the labyrinth, and the termly 'walk of silence'. In keeping with the desire to create a more peaceful world, the school does not use an electronic bell system.
The school motto is “One and All”.
