1000 Hills Bird Park

Description

1000 Hills Bird Park is nestled in Botha’s Hill, on the national road halfway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, in KwaZulu-Natal. The park was founded by Scott Gelder, who planned to create a place where people could enjoy a close interaction and educational experience with various species of birds. Named after the area (the Valley of a Thousand Hills), 1000 Hills Bird Park offers the ideal stopover for families and features a large variety of colourful and exotic birds, from parrots to feathery Loeries.

The park caters for school groups, private visits, and children’s parties. Visitors can enjoy a day full of bird sightings, followed by ice creams from the Ice Cream Doctor, sweets from Have 1 More Sweet Shoppe, and browsing the antiques and gifts at Heidi’s Farm Stall. Pack a picnic basket, order a snack hamper (requires 2 days’ notice), or enjoy a braai with the braai facilities provided.

A 150m zip line is a new addition to the park and provides a unique way to sight numerous birds from all over Africa in large aviaries, landscaped gardens, and open paddocks. Birds you can expect to see include hornbills, touracos, bullbulls, tree pitas, barbets, cranes, parrots, and more.
