"For a quiet breakaway, it's heavenly. With kids, things to do was challenging. Kids need to be entertained. If it was just me, I would have been in heaven."
"Vanwyksdorp is a very small town, so unless you are going for peace and quiet do not expect there to be all the conveniences of a big city. The people are exceptionally friendly and every single person we walked past said hello with a lovely smile and a nod. We felt very welcome and safe in the town when we were walking around and exploring."

"Die gedeelte deur Seweweekspoortpas is baie mooi en beslis 'n besoek werd. Dit moet nie net deurgery word nie, maar stadig beleef word - stop, kyk en drink die bergwater. Ons het Barrydale geniet en lekker gebly - goeie akkommodasie. Die iced coffee by The Mud was die slegste wat ek nog ooit probeer drink het. Die ete by Me's was besonders goed. Plekkies soos Suurbraak en Zoar was maar armoedige ineenstortings en 'n teleurstelling."

"If you are into wine remember to visit De Krans (the Agri opposite the road sells the most delicious ostrich dried wors) and Boplaas in Calitzdorp. 7km outside Oudtshoorn we came across the outstanding Karoo Lusern Butchery. Just after our visit, they won the Cleaver award for best butchery in Western Cape! Between Calitzdorp and Zoar on R62 be sure to visit Seweweekspoort and drive it until you get to the split-in gravel road for Laingsburg. Remember to taste the water there! It's sweet and crystal clear. Between Zoar and Ladysmith is the beautiful Hoeko Valley with its grape vines, fruit trees and poplars. Especially stunning as it changes into autumn colours. So many hidden gems on the R62, it begs for another visit."
"McGregor is a lovely town if you want to go and rest. It is very small and quiet."
