Peaceful and relaxing. Loved every minute. Our two dogs thought they were in heaven with long walks and cooling off in the river. If you need a break from the madness, this is exactly what you need!

Platteland juweel. Die huisie was goed ingerig en skoon. Dit is baie privaat en die uitsig is pragtig. Die braai area is tussen rotse gebou en baie gesellig.

Great stay but the bar fridge is a no-no. Bokmakierie is the perfect getaway, it is private with a lovely hot tub and braai area. The chalet is spacious and the bed is wonderful. The big drawback is the bar fridge. Being self-catering accommodation, a bar fridge is completely inadequate. There is no space for drinks and food. We were considering a 3rd night, but most of our food was starting to go off, so we decided not to extend our stay. A bigger fridge will make all the difference to this unit.

Great spot for a quiet getaway for a couple. It was a cold, rainy weekend, so no inside fireplace was a drawback. Also, braaing in the rain wasn't the most fun. When the weather lightened up, the wood-burning hot tub was the highlight for satellite spotting and star gazing! Great access to walks on site and looks like year-round water for summer visitors. Don't look for Vleiplaas; follow signs to De Pakhuys reception and they will guide you to Bokmakierie.

A bit disappointed. We arrived at reception to find out that there was a rock climbing event on for the weekend which we did not know about. It wasn't a very welcoming sight with tents strewn across the campground and porta potties placed around for people to use. We sat in the car waiting for reception to open, considering whether we should rather head back home. Luckily the Bokmakierie cabin was further away from the campground. The cabin was cosy and secluded, where we spent most of our time. There were many people camping at the dam to which we wanted to take our dogs to swim, so we avoided that, unfortunately. We didn't have toilet paper in the cabin, so we used what we had brought. I reported it to reception on the Sunday morning and had to send a WhatsApp message again in the early afternoon before some toilet paper was dropped off. Although the music from the party on Sunday night didn't disturb us, I could hear it still going after midnight when I got up. Overall, it wasn't the peaceful, outdoor weekend away we were expecting and we're rather glad we didn't stay in the Africamps units overlooking the campsite. A heads-up notifying us before making the booking that there would be an event taking place on the same weekend would have made us reconsider our stay.
