Description
De Akker is a 12V campsite equipped with 12V Anderson plugs that are intended for lighting only. There is no Eskom electricity available, so guests must provide their own power sources, such as solar panels or similar systems. The ablution facilities have solar geysers and gas geysers. However, to maintain the traditional camping atmosphere, 50% of the showers receive hot water from a wood-fired water heater (donkey). Campers who wish to use the donkey-heated showers should light a small fire in the donkey about 45 minutes before shower time to ensure the water stays hot. Wood for the donkey heater is provided, but this wood may only be used for heating the donkey and not for personal fires. Guests therefore have the option of using the gas-heated showers or the donkey-heated showers.
