Very comfortable cottage in a spectacular location. This is the most comfortable you can be in an area of incredibly unspoilt natural beauty. The little cottage is very well-equipped and comfortably furnished, but the stand-out feature is the location: looking out onto the rocky koppies and Gamka River with barking baboons and a wealth of birdlife and other biodiversity. It feels as remote and majestic as die Hel but is much easier to access with a good gravel road turning off from the R62 just outside Calitzdorp. No electricity or cell phone reception, but the cottage has a decent gas fridge and stove; just consider bringing a few extra rechargeable lights and a headlamp. There is even WiFi available at the main house, but we didn't use it. There are 3 cottages (and the main house), but each one feels completely private, like you're the only one there. The river is a short walk away, and the hosts kindly let us use their canoes. We were there in January, and it was quite hot, but there are lovely established pepper trees around the cottage for shade, and a swim in the river (or a quick outdoor shower) goes a long way. provided all pertinent information by email well in advance. We would definitely stay again. Book it, book it now!

Dit was 'n ongelooflike ervaring. Die huisie is pragtig binne en uitstekend ingerig. Alles wat jy moontlik nodig mag kry, is daar. Die omgewing en natuurskoon is baie mooi en uitsonderlik. Die kuier hier het alle verwagtinge oortref.

Heerlik rustig Die akkommodasie bied heerlike afgesonderde verblyf weg van enige geraas-, lig- of elektro-besoedeling! Die kombuis is uitstekend toegerus en die sonkrag en gas werk goed. Ons gasheer en gasvrou was baie behulpsaam.

We stayed for 4 days and loved every minute. What a spectacular place. We loved every moment of the quiet.

I was expecting quiet - that's what I got. Die Poort Private Nature Reserve is a charming destination. Die Poort Private Nature Reserve is at the end of the road where the Gamka River exits the Swartberg having flowed from the Great Karoo past Die Hel. We were privileged to find the river flowing strongly. Fig Tree Cottage is surrounded by mountains - you're all on your own except for hosts Jenny and Jan who stay further along the road. Take your loadshedding lights with you - the solar-powered lights are not great and it's very dark at night. If solitude is not your thing, Die Poort Private Nature Reserve may be an imposition. If you long for a break from the rat race try Die Poort Private Nature Reserve - it's not a one-night stop. Spend time on the farm and recreate. The water supply was wonderful! Crystal-clear mountain water from a spring which seems never to have run dry. Thank you to Jenny, Jan and the Rabie family for sharing this beautiful place.

Pragtig afgeleë, goed toegerus en lekker staproetes met indrukwekkende plante diversiteit. Fig Tree cottage is 'n heerlike blyplek, goed toegerus en skoon. Die beligting in die huisie en anneks is gebrekkig, maak seker jy bring addisionele beligting saam. Die staproete in Steering se Kloof (dit het ons 3 uur geneem) is beslis die moeite werd!
