Disruptive bird noise and disappointing host response. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this property, particularly for business travellers who need a quiet environment in which to work. I paid upfront for a week’s stay and arrived on Tuesday afternoon. Shortly after unpacking, I became aware of a bird in a room directly beneath my unit. Its loud, repeated screeching was extremely disruptive and continued until approximately 11pm that evening. I reported the issue to the website the following day, and they contacted the host. The bird was temporarily moved farther away, which reduced the noise slightly, but by later that afternoon it was back in the room directly below me. The disturbance continued through Thursday. By Friday, I felt I could no longer stay comfortably or work effectively, so I returned the keys and booked alternative accommodation in Strand. The website attempted to arrange a refund of R2,800 for the four unused days, but the host declined. I appreciate the website's assistance and the R700 voucher they provided. However, I was disappointed that the host did not provide a lasting solution to the noise or refund the unused portion of my stay. I understand that hosts may keep birds or other pets, but any persistent noise that could affect guests should be clearly disclosed in the listing. This would allow prospective guests to make an informed decision, especially those travelling for work. The ongoing disturbance and the way my complaint was handled made this an unpleasant and costly experience.
