Special place in the Natal Midlands. Let me start with the positives. The location is excellent, the grounds are beautiful, and the staff are the hotel's greatest asset. They were friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, and breakfast offered a wide variety. Management should take a look at the ladies' room at the back of the restaurant. There is serious and unsightly rising damp on the walls. We were upgraded from a Garden Room to a Deluxe Room with River View, Room Number 5. I do not know what any of the other rooms look like, but Number 5 was a great disappointment. It is an old-fashioned room, not at all like the photos of the Deluxe Room. If the room had been clean and felt fresh, the drab interior could have been overlooked. There is no soap dish in the shower, so the window sill has to be used. There are dirty, run-down stains on the walls. The scatter cushions on the bed had stains, and the chairs on the patio were dirty and looked terrible. There is no patio table, so you have to place your cup or glass on the floor. The lock on the entrance door is loose and difficult to operate. The dressing table has a loose mirror balanced on top, and it fell over numerous times. The cupboards are really old and need refurbishing. Despite these shortcomings, we would love to visit again and would consider staying in one of the Deluxe Suites, which appear to be the newest addition to the property.

Mooi natuurskoon en baie om te doen in die omgewing. Ons gaan al jare soontoe, lief vir die plek, maar voel hulle gehalte diens het heelwat agteruitgegaan. Veral in die feesseisoen. Ons hoop dit sal weer reg wees met ons volgende besoek.

The Midlands is beautiful with a variety of accommodation and restaurants, but it. The room is big with a lot of space and was clean. The dinner menu is a little bit pricey and nothing extraordinary, although the service was good. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of food.

Relaxing stay. Lovely country-style stay with spacious rooms. Great to have fireplaces in the rooms. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Railings and wood finishes could do with a lick of paint, and the room was a bit dark (blinds did not open), but otherwise flawless.
