Description

Black Thorn Bush Camp at Thorn Tree Bush Camp is a popular and private bush camp naturally tucked away in a quiet corner alongside the fence line, offering peaceful north-western views of the surrounding bush-veld.

Ideal for families or friends, the camp accommodates up to four guests and consists of two separate tented units, each furnished with two single beds. Between the tents is a private equipped kitchenette and covered patio area, creating a relaxed space for cooking, dining and enjoying the outdoors together.

The camp also features its own private splash pool and braai area, perfect for cooling off on warm bush-veld afternoons or relaxing around the fire in the evenings. Please note the camp makes use of shared ablution facilities with hot water supplied by a traditional wood-fired rocket boiler.

For larger family or small group bookings, Black Thorn can also be combined with nearby Knob Thorn and Thorn Pear Safari Tents. In keeping with the peaceful bush atmosphere of the camp, no music or excessive noise is permitted.

House Rules

Thorn Tree Bush Camp is located within the Dinokeng Big Five Game Reserve and must adhere to the reserve's rules and regulations. Guests who violate these rules may be asked to leave the reserve without a refund and may face significant fines.

Check-in is between 15:00 and 19:00 during summer and until 18:00 in winter. Late check-ins are at the lodge's discretion and incur an additional fee. Check-ins are not accepted after 20:00; guests arriving after this time will need to check in the following morning, and no refunds will be provided. Check-out time is 10:00 on the day of departure.

Strict noise regulations are enforced, with no music or loud conversations allowed. Lights out is at midnight, and no fireside discussions are permitted after this time.

For groups of eight or more, a breakage deposit is required, which will be refunded within 7 days after the stay, provided there are no damages, breakages, or extra cleaning required. Guests are encouraged to contact reception with any queries before finalizing their booking, as it is assumed that all group members have read and accepted the rules and requirements of both the Dinokeng Game Reserve and Thorn Tree Bush Camp upon confirmation of the booking.

All fires must be properly extinguished before retiring for the night, and they should never be left unattended. During the high fire season from August to October, a total fire ban may be enforced due to dry and windy conditions, in accordance with national fire safety regulations.

Guests with existing medical conditions should ensure they carry necessary medications for their safety. Important medical information, including emergency contacts and medical numbers, should be kept on hand in case of an emergency.

Pool safety is a priority, and parents are responsible for their children's safety as there is no lifeguard on duty. Glass products are strictly prohibited in and around the swimming pool area, and running or shouting is not permitted. Music is not allowed anywhere in the camp.

For general safety, the perimeter fence is electrified to keep wildlife out. Guests must not touch the electric fence, as it can cause serious harm or injury.

Cutting down trees or shrubs for firewood is prohibited; any needed wood, kindling, or firelighters can be obtained from a staff member.

Scented Pod Family Bush Camp at Thorn Tree Bush Camp is a peaceful family-oriented bush retreat designed for guests wanting to slow down, reconnect and enjoy the beauty of nature together.

Positioned in a tranquil area overlooking a nearby waterhole, the camp offers relaxing bush-veld views and regular wildlife activity close to camp.

The camp consists of two spacious tented cabins arranged in a semi-circle, comfortably sleeping four guests in total. Each cabin is furnished with comfortable beds and features a private en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, basin and toilet.

Ideal for families or small groups traveling together, the camp is fully self-catering with equipped kitchen facilities, appliances, crockery and cutlery for relaxed bush-veld meals. Private outdoor seating areas and the central gathering space create the perfect atmosphere for spending time together around the fire while enjoying the sights and sounds of the surrounding bush.

Additional dome tents can also be added for larger family or group bookings — guests are welcome to contact the lodge for arrangements.
