Subpar stay at vacation home - Odaia. While the property was aesthetically pleasing and has potential, several issues negatively impacted our stay. The indoor braai produced excessive smoke and filled the house, making it unpleasant to use. The shower had visible mould, and one of the kitchen lights was not working. We were also concerned to discover surveillance cameras on the property that had not been disclosed prior to our arrival. As we were travelling with a child, this left us feeling uncomfortable and raised privacy concerns. In our view, the lack of disclosure appears inconsistent with the transparency requirements of POPIA. The pillowcase on one of the beds appeared to have bleach marks, and there was a stain on the sheet in the room with the two single beds, which we were able to remove ourselves with a wet wipe. What was particularly disappointing was that management contacted me after our stay regarding the pillowcase and advised that a deduction from my R1,500 breakage deposit was being considered pending feedback from the owners. When I explained that the pillowcase was already in that condition when we arrived, I was asked why I had not reported it immediately. However, multiple contact numbers were provided throughout the booking process, making it unclear who should be contacted regarding maintenance or housekeeping issues. In addition, the neighbour next door often appeared to be observing activity around the property. While this may have been entirely innocent, combined with the undisclosed cameras, it contributed to an uncomfortable feeling of being watched during our stay. Overall, the cleanliness issues, maintenance concerns, unclear communication, and privacy concerns detracted from what should have been a relaxing holiday.
