Disappointed with the additional charge for cleaning. We were very disappointed with our stay. We made a genuine effort to leave the house neat and tidy on departure, with the understanding that professional cleaning was already included in the overall cost. The house was also not adequately equipped for 10 guests, despite being advertised to accommodate that number. There was very limited crockery and cutlery, which meant we had to wash dishes constantly after every meal, and the dishwasher was not properly functional and did not fit the plates well. The bed sheets were stained before we used them, yet R300 was deducted from our breakage deposit for “additional cleaning required”, apparently because the dishes were “not cleaned properly” and the sheets were left stained. We were also given no instructions or cleaning supplies for the gas braai, yet were penalised for that as well. In addition, the beds were not as advertised — there were only 2 queen-sized beds, not 4 — and the main bedroom bath jets expelled black residue, making the bath unusable. Overall, the experience was disappointing and we would not return to this property.

Hi Joanne, Thank you for your feedback. We were genuinely surprised by your review, particularly as you had thanked us and mentioned you had a “lovely” stay at check-out, and we were happy to accommodate your request for a later departure due to one of your guests feeling unwell. To clarify a few points for future guests: the home is equipped with crockery and cutlery exceeding the advertised capacity (12 of each item for a 10-sleeper), which aligns with standard self-catering accommodation. The bedding configuration is also as advertised — 3 queen beds and 1 double bed. The cleaning fee covers standard turnover cleaning between guests. We do ask that the home is left in a reasonable condition. In this instance, additional cleaning was required due to items such as stained couches (with a wax-like substance), makeup-stained linen, and dirty pans placed back in cupboards. As a result, a partial deduction was made from the breakage deposit. To clarify further, no charge was applied for the gas braai being left unclean. The deduction was related to the gas being left on and refuse bags not being disposed of in line with the house rules. We were not informed during your stay of any issues with the bath or linen. We always encourage guests to let us know about any concerns at the time so we can address them promptly.
