House Rules

NOISE

As you can tell, we are in a very quiet part of the village, surrounded by residences. Please no pounding music or raucous parties — the bars uptown can provide you with that. Any music must be kept low and turned down by 11pm. Screaming children and barking dogs are also not tolerated by neighbours, so please be mindful of this.

SMOKING

No smoking in the house. An ashtray is provided outside. Please also ensure no cigarette butts are placed in the indoor bins.

GARBAGE

Please make use of the kitchen bin. Black bags are located beneath the sink. All garbage is recycled at the plant on the outskirts of town. You are welcome to separate recycling using different black bags if you wish.

If you are staying on a Thursday, Tsepelo will collect the bins at 9am. Once your bags are full, please place them around the back of the cottage in the wheelbarrow.

AIR CON

You’re in Riebeek, and it gets very hot! All bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning. We recommend using the air con to cool the room before bed rather than running it all night. Standing fans are also available and are great for keeping mosquitoes at bay. Mosquito plugs are provided next to your bed if needed.

COOKING

Please enjoy the beautiful Paul Bocuse oven. Make sure you do not leave the gas on. Do not use abrasive sponges when cleaning spills.

The outside braai area has wood, firelighters, and briquettes. There is usually enough for your first braai. The garage sells wood, and Pick n Pay sells charcoal and firelighters.

Inside the display cabinet in the kitchen is beautiful vintage crockery. You are welcome to use it — it is a shame not to. Please just remember not to put it in the dishwasher.

SECURITY

Riebeek Kasteel is relatively safe. Like any small town, there are issues with poverty and drugs. Any break-ins are usually opportunistic. Keeping gates closed and doors and windows secured at night is strongly advised.

Your keys include an alarm remote should you wish to arm the house. Please press the blue button when you leave the premises for your peace of mind and ours. We are linked to the alarm system and can deactivate it remotely if it is triggered. Our security company operates 24/7 should there be any issues.

We advise not walking at night.

SWIMMING

Swimming is at your own risk. Please keep an eye on children as the pool has no shallow end. Pool towels are provided in a basket in the living room — please use these instead of bath towels.
