Description
Matamba is a 400 hectare conservancy in the Waterberg Biosphere. What sets us apart is our private and exclusive campsites alongside our beautiful bathrooms and abundant wildlife. If you book a site, you and your group will be the only guests in that site. Our sites are large (+/- 800sqm) and set 150 to 200m apart to give you complete privacy.
Tau camp is spread over 4 hectares and made up of 6 sites with a thatched kitchen/wash up area with WiFi acces and a swimming pool. All sites have a fireplace, braai grid, tap and a power point for guests to plug in an extension if required.
Mara’s camp is ideal for large groups and complete privacy. It’s hidden at the bottom of the conservancy in a thick woodland with two private bathrooms. It has a fireplace, braai grid, wash up basin and it’s own viewing platform.
All of our sites and facilities are serviced daily, this ensures the bathrooms are spotless and bins are emptied so we don't have any monkeys or baboons around the camps.
Matamba is home to over 40 mammal species, abundant birdlife, a wide variety of trees, more than 15 grass species, and numerous wildflowers. Visitors are likely to see animals such as sable, eland, nyala, impala, zebra, kudu, wildebeest, blesbok, giraffe, as well as traces of nocturnal creatures like porcupines, jackals, brown hyenas, and aardvarks. All our sites are unfenced so the animals are constantly in and around the campsite, creating the perfect camping experience.
When you camp at Matamba you have unlimited access to the whole conservancy. With 60 km of sandy tracks throughout the farm, we provide excellent opportunities for walking, game viewing and mountain biking.
We're approximately 28km drive from Vaalwater where you can buy all of your supplies (including decent worse and steak!) from the local Spar, visit the stunning curio store (The Black Mamba) and get a coffee and doughnut for the road from Carlas.
We enjoy a mild, temperate climate, making it suitable for visits year-round. Located just off the R33 between Vaalwater and Lephalale, it is easily accessible from Johannesburg and Pretoria (2.5-hour drive), making it an ideal weekend getaway or stopover on the way to Botswana.
