"Didn't spend too much time in Paarl itself, went to visit family most days. Had a dodgy experience in the Spar car park - I was asked to pay R10 for parking as it was load shedding and then they would only accept cards. Mentioned it to security who knew about the individuals. By the time we returned, they had moved on."

Most places have no backup power, so restaurants only serve a limited menu, and no coffee or other hot drinks during load-shedding. Makes you wonder how they maintain the cold chain of their perishable products."
