Welcome to Your Stay!

Arrival & Neighbourly Courtesy
We are situated in a residential area, so we kindly ask no honking on arrival. Please send us a WhatsApp message or call, and we’ll gladly open for you. For safety—and as we have pets on the property—please ensure the driveway gate is closed when entering and leaving. We also ask that you respect our neighbours during your stay.

To make your first night comfortable, we provide tea, coffee, milk, sugar, and toilet paper. Thereafter guests are required to supply their own.
We also offer a fire starter kit with doringhout wood to enjoy a cozy fire. If you’d like more wood, it’s available for purchase. Wood stumps can also be bought and used ONLY at the fire pit, so you can safely enjoy the flames.

Check-in & Check-out

Check-in is STRICTLY from 2:00 PM.
Check-out is on or before 10:00 AM, as we require adequate time to prepare the property for incoming guests.
Guests are kindly requested to adhere strictly to these times, as we operate across multiple booking platforms.

Water Usage – Very Important

We are currently experiencing a severe water crisis in De Rust, with strict water restrictions in place. We kindly ask all guests to use water sparingly during this critical time.
Please do not run baths, instead you are welcome to enjoy a short shower.
Guests are advised not to drink the tap water. 5 litres of filtered drinking water from our filter system will be provided per day for the duration of your stay. Thereafter, guests are kindly requested to bring their own drinking water.
Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and helps us protect this precious resource.

Pet Policy

We love animals and welcome pets by prior arrangement only. A maximum of two small to medium-sized pets is allowed.
A pet fee of R100 per pet, per stay applies. This is payable (cash) directly to the host upon arrival.
For the comfort of all guests, pets are unfortunately not allowed on beds or furniture. A doggy bed and blanket will be provided for you.
Pets may not be left alone at The Cottage and must remain behind the fence at all times. We too have two young Border Collies who are very friendly and sociable. Ensuring your gate remains closed and latched keeps your pets in and our pets out.

Swimming Pool

Cottage guests have access to the communal swimming pool, shared with other guests and the Main House.
Please wear shoes or flip-flops when walking to and from the pool, as the ground can become very hot.
The pool gate must be closed at all times.
No running in the pool area.
We kindly ask all guests to be mindful of others while using the pool, so that everyone can enjoy a safe and relaxing time.
For safety reasons children must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times. Under no circumstances may children be left unattended at the pool.
Should a child be left unattended, the swimming pool will be closed and will not be available for use for the remainder of your stay.

Care of Furnishings & Handcrafted Items

The Cottage contains numerous handcrafted wooden furnishings and fittings, made by ourselves, throughout the kitchen, living areas, bedroom, and bathroom. These items have been created with great care and love and are of significant value.
Guests are kindly requested to treat all wooden surfaces and furniture with respect and care.
Cutting food/items directly on wooden countertops and the coffee table is strictly prohibited. Cutting boards are provided and must be used at all times.
Please avoid placing hot items, sharp objects, or liquids directly onto wooden surfaces.
Indoor furniture may not be taken outside. Outdoor furniture is provided for guest use.
For your safety, candles may only be used in the holders provided. Please do not place candles under wooden blinds.
Guests will be held liable for damage resulting from misuse or failure to follow these guidelines. Thank you for helping us preserve the Cottage and its unique character.

Smoking

For the comfort of all guests, smoking is not permitted indoors. Any evidence of indoor smoking will result in an additional cleaning fee.

Day Visitors

Day visitors are permitted by prior approval only and are subject to additional fees.
The guest making the booking is fully responsible for their day visitors and must ensure that all house rules are strictly adhered to at all times.
Only approved visitors may be on the property and must depart by the time specified by the host.
For full details regarding the Day Visitor Policy, including applicable fees and conditions, please contact the host in advance.
Please note that The Cottage may not be used as a venue or for parties.

Electricity and Solar Power

The Cottage operates on a solar power system. To ensure uninterrupted power for all guests, we kindly ask that electricity be used mindfully and sparingly.
Please switch off lights and appliances when not in use and avoid leaving multiple lights on unnecessarily.
For safety and system capacity reasons, private heaters, fans or high-load electrical appliances are not permitted. This includes charging of electric vehicles, which is unfortunately not supported by our solar system.
The Cottage is equipped with a wall heater and two portable fans for your comfort.
